About the Trust:
The George & Thomas Henry Salter Trust is a charity registered with the Charity Commission under number: 216503.
The Trust was set up in 1918, under the Will of George Salter and Thomas Salter (West Bromwich History). During their lifetimes, George and Thomas - both local West Bromwich men, set up a successful company specialising in making weighing machines and scales; if you look at a set of scales nowadays, they are more than likely to be manufactured by ‘Salter’!
George and Thomas opened their first factory in West Bromwich and throughout his time there, made sure to provide help for the local community. After his passing, George left 100 shares of £100 each in his company ‘George Salter and Company Limited’ to the Trust to ensure that this support continued.
The George & Thomas Henry Salter Trust to be used to help support those in need, the organisations that support them and to help with the education of the younger generation in schools and higher education.
The benefit of the Trust has now been extended to cover the entire area of the Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council.
